like Einstein said, "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one"....bus humaray case main kuch ziada he persistent or invariable hai....i dont think anyone from our ENTIRE govt circle can match Singh's qualification
Oh and I thought presidents are required to be democratically elected and not selected on the basis of qualifications. Anyway who am I since Khalifah is the champion democrat here. If he says qualifications then it must be just that.
Next time we should let vice chancellors of Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, Balochistan and Kashmir Universities let choose President of Pakistan followed by CV scrutiny and panel interviews.

This is a comparison of leadership not about how they are elected.
That is why western democracy stinks.
So what do you propose JAM? General Zia ul Haq
Plant a tree
Well not a new idea, Islamic democracy, Shoora of the intellectual elite, Khalifa-tul-Muslimeen the leader. You know the thing. Refer http://www.tanzeem.org/ for more info. if you like.
Support revolution.
Being a citizen of Pakistan I complete and totally oppose this model of elitist democracy and will go on roads if such a model is adopted. We should actually be working to develop a common democracy where every Pakistani is equal and not some bunch of so called intellectuals

With common democracy you will continue to have Zardaris and Musharaffs as dictators.
otherwise we will have Amir ul Momineen Mullah Omar.
With 'functioning' Democracy in place, we wont have any dictator. Types like Zardaris can be replaced in the next elections.
Then you have misunderstood democracy as explained and envisoned by Socrates and Plato. Both disdainfully labelled what you hold dear as "mob rule" and were instead in favor of "philosopher kings". In other words, democracy, if interpreted solely as rule of majority, in itself becomes a tool of oppression
So Theocracy rules eh Khalifah? :)
How do you figure that?
somehow that is.. the idea that 'some' people, by whatever criteria (I included religion in too), are rightful rulers?
Quite a vivid imagination you have there...The idea is that people have to have some sort of qualification for higher office a certain criteria should be met.
Here is the problem then. A certain section of the population thinks that 'philosopher kings' should rule. A certain section of the population would say that clergy are the best because they are more religious (wrong or right argument does not matter), certain section would like to think that aristocracy is the best so on so forth.
This in results makes these section 'feel' that they are the superior ones that can and should rule. Why do the Armymen think that they are better managers of Pakistani affairs than their civilian counterparts?
The best way (perhaps) is to go by popular vote and then hire the expertise where you need it. That would only happen when there is a bit sincereity in leadership - unlike Pakistan.
An educated mind produces, educated and brilliant ideas, thats the undeniable fact
A leader does not have to be an MBA or have a degree from Harvard. Thats a proven fact.
Arslan.ali: An educated mind produces, educated and brilliant ideas, thats the undeniable fact.
So educated your population and don't look for quick shortcuts as it will only lead to more misery. The ruling elite will restrict education to their sons and daughters so they can continue to rule for generations.

Didn't we have highly qualified people as our rulers at one point? What exatly happened?
The lights went out then :p so no one knows
hahahhahha....... I bet khalifah will know or Babar. They seem to know everything.
yeah they know everything... they are opposites but I hear opposites attract :p Good for them :p
You can see the attraction on every post.
and why did Babra Sharif come in to my mind now?! Babra Khalifa should have come in...
hhehehehhehehe............. Dono ne pakar ker maarna hai tumhein.
hey both of you! I like the hands off approach ok! just read me my rights!
Who the heck has time to read rights?.......... This is Pakistan and there are no rules or rights here.
ap unki side na lain.. mujhay koi kashmir na samjhay! :p
damn.. this kashmir point might turn out to an incentive for Khalifah :p
Well only khalifah can answer that incentive part. According to your comment about being elected by popular votes, Zardari was elected by the assembly and assembly was formed by popular votes. what is the problem here?
Nothing. Just that Presidency has all the powers which PM should have and just an odd distraction of Zardari being corrupt and a liar. All else cool!
The thing is this system is not flawless.. every sort of person will come to to rule.. but then the populace has the option of removing them too na.
and zardari-types would have been taken care of had we had an independant judiciary.
Independant Judiciary....... It only depends on one person.
My whole point is that we did have qualified people running the country in the past but they were all removed due to corruption. There are good qualified people in the government but with so much corruption no one can sustain being sane.
Yeah. exactly. Thats why Khalifahs argument sounds a bit scoring less points.
